The crudest imitation in the Aurum Barbarorum Collection
Lot 829
UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES, Pseudo-Imperial coinage. Late 3rd-early 4th centuries. 'Aureus' (Gold, 19 mm, 4.95 g, 5 h). IHIIIIIIIYW - IIIIIIIII Laureate imperial head to left. Rev. Horseman to right, raising his right arm in salute. A particularly wild imitation in excellent condition. Holed and with some light marks, otherwise, good extremely fine.

From the Aurum Barbarorum Collection.

This is certainly the crudest imitation in the Aurum Barbarorum Collection. The obverse shows a heavily devolved laureate and clean-shaven Roman head, whereas the reverse loosely copies an Adventus type, perhaps from an aureus of Probus.
